IIN - BIN

Description

The Issuer Identification Number (IIN, also called BIN) is the first 6 (or 8) digits of a credit card and identifies the (name and country of issuing bank) of a credit card.

A Credit Card Number (also called PAN) consist of an IIN (also called BIN), the account identification and a check digit.

By the IIN it's possible to identify:

  • the scheme (Mastercard, VISA, JCB, Amex, ...)

  • the issuer bank (the bank of the card holder)

  • the country of the issuer bank

  • the type of card (credit card, debit card, corporate card, ...)

The BIN- / IIN tables are not public.
